Access to personal information about yourself

The Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) gives you rights to access your own personal information.  The UK Information Commissioner's office (ICO) enforces and oversees the DPA.  Further information about the DPA is available on the ICOs website: www.ico.gov.uk.

How do I make a request to OSCR under the Data Protection Act?

You should make a request in writing to:

Information Manager
OSCR
2nd Floor
Quadrant House
9 Riverside Drive
Dundee
DD1 4NY

or email: info@oscr.org.uk putting 'Subject Access Request' in the title.

We will need you to supply proof of your identity, for example:

  • a photocopy of the identification pages of your current passport
  • a photocopy of a current photo driving licence
  • an original of a current utilities bill, or credit card or bank statement.

This would be returned to you if requested; otherwise it will be securely destroyed once we no longer need it.

It is helpful if you can give us any information to help narrow the search, such as specific personal information you are looking for or which part of OSCR you have had contact with. OSCR does not currently charge a fee for responding to these requests.

Consumer Focus Scotland has produced a guide to rights of access to personal information called "What's on My Record?" which is available at:
